Double Chin

Double chins have finally met their match!

Kybella injections have completely revolutionized the non-invasive treatment for double chins.  This injectable procedure contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring bile acid in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat in the intestines.  When injected into the fat layer under the skin, it causes permanent destruction of the fat cells.  These fat cells are gone forever, and the results are permanent unless future weight gain occurs.

Is Kybella right for me?
The best candidates are those with mild to moderate fullness under the chin, with or without mild sagging.  Patients with severe conditions and the sagging turkey neck would do best with surgical intervention.  Call our office for a consultation so that we can fully evaluate your needs and expected results.

How many Kybella sessions will I need?
Many of our patients need only two sessions, but some individuals may need several more.  The more fullness an individual has, the more vials of product and treatment sessions they will need.

Will Kybella help with the sagging skin under my chin?
We often see a mild lifting and tightening of the skin in the treated area, but this cannot be guaranteed.  Other treatments are available in our office to help  lift the skin  of the lower face and neck. Severe sagging is best treated with surgical intervention.

Does the procedure hurt?
No - fortunately not with our method.  Dr. Brown adds lidocaine numbing to the Kybella injections for a more pleasant experience.  When the Kybella is injected, it immediately begins to burst the fat cells.  This process would cause significant burning with the injections; however, the additional lidocaine numbing blocks the pain and burning sensations.

Can I return to work immediately after my treatment?
The Kybella process causes noticeable swelling, particularly in the double chin area.  This procedure is best done when you have a long weekend without social activities.  Otherwise, you might earn some new nicknames like "Pelican", "Bullfrog" or "Jabba the Hutt".  Immediately after, we recommend wearing your hair down if you have long hair to camouflage the area.  Scarves and bulky clothing can also help to hide the swelling.  You can expect significant swelling for about four days, with the swelling tapering down after that.  It may take several weeks for the swelling to completely resolve, but it should not be noticeable to others at this point.  Believe us, it will be worth it in the end.

How soon will I see results?
While Kybella instantly begins to destroy the fat cells when injected, the true magic relies on the body's natural system of slowly cleaning up the cellular debris. The inflammation and swelling that occurs often provides mild tightening and lifting of the jawline area after all the dust has settled.  This process takes time.  We typically see good results several months after the last Kybella treatment, although final results with tightening can take up to 6 months.

I've been so happy with Kybella for my double chin!  Where else can it be injected?
While Kybella is only FDA-approved for the double chin area, we have been getting great results using it off-label in the jowl area, the bra-bulge, and other small fat deposits.  Dr. Brown can determine if you are a good candidate at your next visit or consultation.
